The Peak Online Tri – Devon’s First Long Distance Triathlon

The Peak Online Tri – Devon’s First Long Distance Triathlon

Skern Lodge are delighted to be supporting the Peak Online Tri on the 2nd -3rd of September 2023.

This inaugural fundraising event will take place over two days and involves the 12 triathletes completing a gruelling 108-mile cycle, a 30-mile coastal walk, and a 0.8 -mile team raft across the Taw Torridge Estuary. Unlike your traditional individual-timed triathlon, this is a team challenge event. Skern Lodge are proud to be delivering the river crossing segment of the race across the Taw Torridge Estuary, starting at Crow Point and landing across the river on the southern bank close to Skern.

The race starts Saturday 2nd September 2023, visiting points such as Hartland, Okehampton, South Molton and finishing at Lynton Cricket Club. The bike route is 108 miles long and ranks second on the world stage compared to other long-distance races in terms of elevation!!

Day 2 begins with a challenging 26–30-mile coastal walk from Lynton to Braunton, where they will then compete in a two-team raft across the estuary to Appledore. Participants will then walk the final 2-mile leg to Westward Ho! for a finish line celebration with friends, family, and sponsors.

The Supported Charity

Peak Online has created this event to support local charities here in North Devon, with 100% of donations and sponsorship money going directly to the selected cause. The chosen charity for 2023 is the North Devon UNESCO Biosphere Reserve which Skern Lodge has been a Biosphere Business Partner of since 2020.

The North Devon Biosphere Foundation is an environmental charity dedicated to furthering the aims of the North Devon UNESCO Biosphere Partnership. From the Flora and Fauna of Dartmoor, along our meandering rivers, past historic coastal communities, to the diversity of our marine environment stretching beyond Lundy Island, our UNESCO Biosphere celebrates life by recognising the connections between people and nature.

All the money raised will have a big impact on our environment, as it will help the North Devon Biosphere team give nature a helping hand in protecting what we all love within our UNESCO designated World Biosphere Reserve, here in North Devon. Donations could help to fund the watervole reintroduction at Braunton Marsh or to restore the ancient woodlands across our biosphere!

Skern Lodge has a long-standing affiliation with North Devon UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and are delighted that they have been chosen as the events-supported charity. Our relationship first began in 2019 when the team at Skern helped author the charter for sustainable business practice in line with UNESCOs SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). The following year Skern Lodge proudly became the first Biosphere Business Partner (BBP). Since then, Skern Lodge and the North Devon Biosphere have continued to work together on a variety of local projects and community events including the EU Interreg Bio-Cultural Heritage Tourism (BCHT) project as well as the HLF funded Pledge for Nature community project.

Please show your support and encouragement to the Peak Online Triathletes by donating to their fundraiser and know that your donation will help give nature a helping hand in protecting what we all love.
